Tim kliphuis trio in tenby

Sun 25th Nov 18 18:00 edit

'YanniH Arts Promotion' presents in St. Mary's CHURCH HOUSE... the return of one of TENBY'S FAVOURITES...

the TIM KLIPHUIS TRIO... a seamless blend of classical, jazz, swing, Celtic folk & bluegrass, led by one of the world's premier violinists!

The performance of the Tim Kliphuis Trio in The De Valence, for the 2014 Tenby Arts Festival was a memorable highlight & it has been 3 years (too long!) since they mesmerised us in Caffe Vista. Well, they are back in Tenby after taking their 'genre-bending' style of 'free music', to new heights, all over the world!

International violin star Tim Kliphuis breathes new life into existing styles with his high-energy brand of Classical, Gypsy Jazz, Celtic & World music. His improvised sound is totally unique, yet steeped in tradition. Classically trained & widely regarded as the inheritor of the Stephane Grappelli ‘crown’, Kliphuis first made his name playing with the fiery European Gypsy guitarists (legends such as The Rosenberg Trio, Fapy Lafertin and Angelo Debarre) but soon developed a cross-over style of "total music", taking him to prestigious Classical, Jazz & Folk venues around the world. His insistence on breaking the barriers between musical styles, has led him to being hailed worldwide as, "...a current-day improvising Paganini".

Joining Tim Kliphuis, will be Nigel Clark (guitar - from 80s charting band, Hue & Cry) & Roy Percy (double bass)... the line-up which boasts highly acclaimed appearances at Edinburgh, Brecon & Birmingham Jazz Festivals, Cambridge Folk Festival, The Sage Gateshead & Ronnie Scott's, London. After recording their first concert DVD 'Live at Iford Manor' in 2011, they opened the outdoor Prince's Canal Concert in Amsterdam in front of an audience of 10,000. In 2015 they led the legendary Netherlands Chamber Orchestra featuring classical violin virtuoso, Gordan Nikolic to a sold-out show at Paradiso Amsterdam, blending classical with jazz & swing, as has never been done before. Further 'jazz & folk meets classical' performances with symphony orchestras, led to the Trio playing for the Dutch Royal Family in April 2017, at a televised concert for the king’s birthday celebrations. Chart success followed, with a number one position in the Dutch classical music charts.for their album 'Reflecting The Seasons' (Sony Classical records).

As an educator, Kliphuis is the author of best-selling book ‘Stéphane Grappelli Gypsy Jazz Violin’, the much-praised ‘Hot Jazz Violin’ DVDs & Jazz Etude videos. His workshops have been featured at festivals, conservatoires & summer courses in the USA, Canada, UK, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany & Holland. Tim holds the Jazz Violin Chair at Tilburg Conservatoire & hosts an annual Gypsy Jazz violin camp back home in Holland every August.
