New Practise Room In Swansea/morriston!
by midgard music room, written 2008-04-28
midgard music is a smooth and simple practice room. after years of unsatisfactory practice area´s catering to music, musicans have found it harder and harder to find an area to practice and rehearse.

midgard music have decided that you, the musician, needs an area to perform and practice without costing you an arm and a leg...or even a police visit.

situated in the enterprise zone in the morriston area, we are able to offer you easy access and no volume constraints (within reason).

go to www.midgardmusic.co.uk for more details!

Practice Room
by tom, written 2008-04-23
hi guys,

please can you help me and take 2 minutes to anwser the questions below - just simple 1 word anwsers will do. it will help us in our attempt to open a new practice room.

1 - where is your band based
2 - how far would you travel (proposed building is in pontypridd)
3 - how much do you pay now (and for how long)
4 - do you take your own stuff or pay to use stuff there (drums etc)
5 - does the room have acoustic treatment
6 - how many times a month do you practice

please send a quick email, even if its just to show your support - we need this to help with the plan for our bank and i know the place we have planned will be an amazing room to practice in.

thank you,
tom (welshgigs)

Tom´s Is Closed For Refurbishment
by the dancingman, written 2008-04-23
from sarah´s myspace

for those of you that have read the blog you will all know about our recent incident with the flyaway roof..

all joking aside the damage was awful and the aftermath of this event has set in quicker than even i thought it would.

we have today been informed by the owners that..toms rock bar is now closed for re-roofing and full refurb.. we are totally gutted as we didn´t see this coming so soon, we were hoping to give notice to the bands and promoters that were booked in at least until the end of the month. we were hoping to be able to to have at least one massive party to end one more chapter in the toms saga before the next chapter started.

what can i say to you all.. i knew nothing about this until earlier today. as for the rest of the day, i´ve been trying to find out reasons and any other option etc..

it all comes down to health and safety and insurance puposes. the powers that be, have been trying to get to us for years, now it looks like they may have actually found a legal way to do it. for now!!!!!!!

fear not the owners are awaiting a report from the roofing contractors on monday morning and a full structual survey on the building. at least then we know where we are and how long its gonna take. i´m just gutted its happened this way without any notice..

who knows monday, we may be told that everything is fine and it´ll only take a week and we will then be back on course but just in case... please stay in touch. we´ll keep you all informed and as soon as we get any info we´ll let you know
sarah

Bands Tom´s Myspace
by the dancingman, written 2008-04-15
from sarah´s myspace blog

"you should have recieved a freind request from raven shows and bookings, if not add them yourselves..
we will soon be handing most of our gigs over to them..
i will still have some contact with them as i do some pr/ scouting work with the company, but due to circumstances beyond my control i cannot continue to run the venue and be the promoter for 4/5 nights a week , as i have done it for the last five years and yes it is getting too much for me..

i will still own the venue

i will still put on my own shows

all gigs already booked are still fine, they may have a new promoter, but they are still all confirmed

i will still be working with the current promotes ie cat corpse, penguin, lost in bass, intoxicated, incarceration, and raven shows and bookings

i will still be around most nights a week.
i just need a bit more time to concentrate on the running of the venue..

i will be deleting some of the bands and this site will concentrate on the fans of the venue.. please all of you add the booking agent and we can still all work together.

sarah"

Save The Point
by tom, written 2008-04-05
the point is under threat of closure due to impending court action by cardiff council over noise emitting from the venue and disturbing some of our new neighbours.

whilst we are doing everything we can to resolve the issue, we do need you to register your support for this great venue and keep live music alive in cardiff - and maybe politicians and the council will take notice and work with us to get it fixed.

thanks from everyone at the point.

by tom, written 2007-12-09
a music media project for young people aged 14 – 19 and living in rhondda cynon taff

ever watched mtv and wondered what it would be like to work on or actually be in a music video? now here’s your chance to experience first hand what it takes to work in the music or media industries with this fantastic new project ‘make it’!

rhondda cynon taff county borough councils cultural services are currently looking for around 12 young people aged 14 – 19 from rhondda cynon taff, who have a flare for media and two local bands, to take part in a music video and band photography project.

we encourage welsh and english speakers to become involved in the make it initiative.

on the media side you will work as a team to plan, script, film and edit one of the bands songs to create a pop video. you will also have the opportunity to work with a band photographer taking promotional band photographs. if you are the band chosen you will have the opportunity to star in your own music video as well as contribute your ideas to the media team.

you must be available to attend four evening development sessions during january and february ( one per week) as well as be available for the whole of half term ( monday 11th - saturday 16th february 2008).

for further information, please contact either tanya walker –sonig co-ordinator on (01443) 490205 email: sonig@rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk or anne hayes – digital media co-ordinator on (01443) 490229 email: anne.hayes@rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk

please note: bands must have a current recording of original material, either to send in or accessible on a my space site or website.

closing date for enquiries friday 14th december 2007.

Silent Disco Comes To Wales
by tom, written 2007-11-30
glamorgan university are hosting a silent disco this sat (1st dec). the plan is simple, put on 2 djs, give everyone a set of wireless headphones and a switch to choose between either dj and watch the crowd dance (and sing!) to 2 different songs.

for more info visit http://www.silentarena.com or visit the gig page here on welshgigs http://www.welshgigs.com/gigs/?id=4981

what makes a silentarena experience special?

everybody takes away different things from a silentarena event. some people love to be able to choose what music they listen too, some enjoy being able to talk without shouting above loud music, others love the surreal sensation when listening to a crowd sing two different songs at the same time with no music.

the indispensable grass-roots music directory covering everything you could possibly need as a new, emerging, unsigned band or musician is back and better than ever before!

the new edition of the unsigned guide weighs in at a whopping 872 pages packed with essential contact information for over 11,500 music industry contacts and organisations for england, northern ireland, scotland and wales.

fully researched & updated, the new edition contains masses of new industry contacts, with telephone numbers, email addresses and much more. all coupled with hugely useful hints and pointers about how to progress in the music industry, there’s information here to make the music business accessible to any band or musician. the unsigned guide contains listings for everyone you would ever think to call from record company a&r, management companies, radio stations, publishing companies, recording studios to press and media contacts, instrument shops, uk venues and promoters.

in addition, this brand new second uk edition also boasts 3 brand new sections for producers, uk festivals and industry conferences & seminars. there are also some very useful forewords written by organisations such as musicians’ union, ifpi, mcps-prs alliance and bpi, as well as contributions from glastonbury festival, sunday best recordings & in the city. a sure fire way to help you steer your way through the music industry!!

no other music industry directory promises to be such a comprehensive resource for unsigned bands, musicians, music students or managers. if you’re serious about your music (and you live in the uk!), the unsigned guide uk edition two is undoubtedly one of the most important buys you’ll make this year. essential, it’s as simple as that.
