Elinor Bennett – summer concert
Join Elinor as she returns to Acapela performing a collection of nocturnes, arabesques and fantasies to celebrate summer with folk tales and songs from Wales and other Celtic countries.
Elinor has played with most of Britain’s major orchestras and worked with many of the world’s greatest conductors. She has given solo performances in London, Europe, Japan, Australia, America and throughout Wales.
In addition to the full range of Welsh traditional styles she demonstrates a versatility of form, which embraces the work of classical composers of many different periods as well as contemporary ones.
She was the first ever harpist to record the harp arrangements of Joseph Haydn.
Several major composers have written works for her, including Alun Hoddinott, Rhian Samuel, Hilary Tann and Malcolm Williamson. John Metcalf’s ‘Harp Scrapbook’ was the result of a particularly close collaboration and formed the basis of a television documentary for S4C.
Elinor has edited two compilations of new works by Welsh composers called “Living Harp”. She broadcasts regularly on radio and television and is also recognized as one of the world’s leading teachers of the harp, holding workshops throughout Wales and works closely with University Students at Bangor.
An Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, she was made an Honorary Fellow of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1996 for her services to music. Elinor is married to Dafydd Wigley, Honorary President of Plaid Cymru and of course just in case you did not know is mother to Acapela Managing Director and owner – Hywel Wigley!.
